How your details are used
This is a small, private beta run by one person, Chris Judd. Here's exactly what it keeps.
When you request access
Your name, email, company, role, industry, Kafka experience, anything you write about how you'd use KPD, and when you agreed to the beta terms. It's stored in the beta's own database and used for two things: deciding who to invite, and emailing you about your access. If you ticked the news box, I may also send you a few emails a year about KPD.
When you use the beta
Your username, when you signed in, and how long you had KPD open. For each thing KPD does through the beta, I keep only the kind of action (for example "saved a pipeline" or "exported Terraform"), when, whether it worked and how long it took. That's how the shared repository knows who made what, and how I see which parts of KPD get used.
Project, pipeline and topic names are never stored for any of this. Where I need to tell two pipelines apart, the beta keeps a scrambled fingerprint that can't be turned back into the name. Your password isn't stored anywhere in a readable form.
If you join the open beta list
Your name, email, company and industry, when you joined, and the wording you agreed to. They're used for one thing: emailing you about the KPD Studio open beta. Nothing else is sent, and nothing is shared or sold. To be taken off the list, email cpljudd@hotmail.com.
Visits to these pages
When you open one of the beta's public pages (the home page, What KPD does, the user guide and so on), the server counts the visit. It keeps the page, the site that linked you here, whether you're on a phone or a computer, and your country. Your country is worked out from your internet address, which is then thrown away: it isn't stored.
To count people rather than page loads, the visit also gets a code made from your address and browser, scrambled with a key that changes every day. It's the same all day and different the next, so visits on different days can't be linked, and the code can't be turned back into your address. Visits are kept for 180 days. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is counted.
Countries come from IP Geolocation by DB-IP.
What isn't collected
No tracking, analytics or advertising scripts run in your browser, and nothing is shared or sold. Visits are counted on the server without cookies. The only cookies are the ones that keep you signed in and remember that this browser has signed in before.
Removing your details
You can see and change your details, or delete your account, on Your account once you're signed in. Or email cpljudd@hotmail.com and I'll do it for you. Pipelines you made stay in the shared repository unless you ask me to remove those too.
