Beta goals · Round 1
Round 1: first steps with KPD
Welcome to the first round of the KPD beta. This round is about first impressions: can you get from an empty screen to a design you'd be happy to hand over, and where does KPD get in your way?
Start with the Hello World tutorial. It takes about an hour and uses every part of KPD, so by the end you'll know your way round. After that, try KPD on the kind of pipeline you design in your own work, and tell me what's missing, confusing or broken.
Every piece of feedback is read, and you'll see my reply inside KPD.
What to try this round 6
Where your time helps most. Use these, then tell me what you found with Help → Send feedback in KPD.
-
Start with the Hello World tutorial
Build the Hello Coffee Co pipeline step by step: a CDC source, Flink joins, data products, governance, data quality and Terraform. Open the User guide, choose Hello World, and use the guided wizard beside KPD. It takes about an hour. Tell me any step where you got stuck, had to guess, or where the guide didn't match the screen.
-
Design a pipeline of your own
Pick a pipeline like the ones you design at work and build it in a new project of your own. Use made-up names, never client details: the repository is shared with every tester. Where did KPD slow you down, and what couldn't you express?
-
Validate it and fix what it finds
Use Validate project and the Problems tab. Were the warnings right and clear? Did it miss anything you'd have caught in a review?
-
Export it as you'd hand it over
Export the picture (PNG), the detailed design document and the Terraform. Would you give these to a client or a platform team as they are? What would you change first?
-
Try the Confluent parts you use most
Flink SQL, the managed connectors, schemas and data contracts, service accounts and access. Is anything you rely on missing, or set up differently from how Confluent Cloud really works?
-
Walk someone through a design
Use Workshop mode and Follow the data to explain a pipeline to a colleague, as you would in a design workshop. Did it help them follow it?
Found something?
In KPD, use Help → Send feedback. It comes straight to me with KPD’s version, and the best reports become goals for the next round. Bugs on this page are ones I already know about, so no need to report them again — but do tell me if a “Done” one isn’t.
